Addison, Ill.–The Statesmen women’s bowling team advanced to bracket play, but could not pull off any upsets at the Roto Grip Eagles Baker Challenge Saturday and Sunday.

The Statesmen placed seventh out of 16 teams with 6,527 pins in 10 sets of Bakers, while Grand View led qualifying with 7,152 pins. The weekend served as a preview to postseason play for William Penn as the xBowling Team Sectionals and Nationals are contested entirely in Baker format.

WPU was defeated 3-0 by #2 seed Robert Morris (Ill.) in the quarterfinals of bracket competition. Grand View held its seed and swept #3 Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) 3-0 in the championship match.

Statesmen team members included: Stephanie Adams (Jr., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management), Emily Braga (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Communications), Audra Farley (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Education), Cybil Lennie (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided), Briell Newberry (So., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education), Amber Ovel (Fr., Waterloo, Iowa, Business Management), Montana Pence (Sr., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education), and Cheyanne Starr (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Psychology).

Next Up: William Penn travels back to Addison, Ill. to compete in the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic Saturday and Sunday.
