WPU Notches 12th-Place Finish
Moline, Ill. – The men’s bowling team of William Penn University traveled northeast to the Quad Cities to take part in the ISYL Leatherneck Classic. Forty-six teams competed over the weekend and the Statesmen just missed out on the top 10. With 8,755 total pins for the event, WPU claimed a 12th-place finish. McKendree University won the event with 9,861 pins, while team member Charlie Reid won the individual award with an average of 246.2.
Brandon Freese (Jr., Marshalltown, Iowa, Software Engineering) was the top bowler for the navy and gold over the weekend, finishing 34th out of 429 rollers. He missed out on his season-high score by one pin in game one with a tally of 223. He put up two more scores over 200 and collected 1,202 total pins over six games.
Just missing the top-50 was Braydn Linke (Fr., Harrisville, Utah, Business Management), who compiled an average of 196.1 over six games, knocked down 1,177 total pins. He had three games over 200, with 212 being his best mark. Jake Cook (So., Keokuk, Iowa, Physical Education) was next up for WPU, tallying 900 pins over five games, good for an average of 180.0. His top mark was a 202 in his second game.
Rok Kostric (Jr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) was next, with an average of 215.5 over four games played. He had 862 total pins and was over 200 in each game, with a team-high score of 241 in his second game. Austin Czerwinski (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Physical Edcuation) also played in four game and put up an average of 166, with his best score being a 197.
Aleksander Kostric (Jr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) participated in three games, with a high of 211. He picked up 570 pins for an average of 190.0. Logan Mason (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) rounded out the scorers for the varsity team with two games bowled and an average of 165.5.
It was also a good weekend for Jayson Miner (So., Silvis, Ill., Physical Education), who was the top scorer for the men’s JV team. With a 197.8 average and a season best of 244 in his third game, Miner collected 1,187 pins over six games to net a 45th-place finish. Jeremy Gould (Fr., Perry, Ga., Sports Management) also hit a season-best score over the weekend, putting up a 234 in his first game.
Up Next: The teams are off for about a month before they travel to Addison, Ill., for the Ebonite Warhawk Open on December 7-8.
