WPU Finishes in Middle of Pack at Collegiate Shoot-Out

Las Vegas, Nev.–The William Penn men’s bowling team closed out the first half of its season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shoot-Out Wednesday and Thursday.

WPU finished 24th out of 47 teams with 8,644 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games. Wichita State (Kan.) paced qualifying with 9,928 pins, while Webber International (Fla.) topped the eight-team playoff.

C.J. Petrin of Oklahoma Christian paced the individual standings with a 235.7 pin average (1,414 pins).

Aidan Piet (Fr., Meridian, Idaho, Business Management) guided the navy and gold with a 211.7 average (1,270 pins), while Bryce Keykal (Jr., Princeton, Minn., Education) was closely behind with a 207.7 clip.

Carter Boley (So., Grimes, Iowa, Engineering) also eclipsed 200 pins in average with a 201.8 mark in five rounds.

Conor Fetherston (So., Dublin, Ireland, Software Engineering), at 176.8, and Jared Smith (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, General Accounting), at 167.3, both rolled four games.

Kody Sapp (Sr., Donnelson, Iowa, Industrial Technology) (170.0) and Marcus Yamada (Sr., Kenai, Alaska, Business Management) (155.5) each started two games, while Spencer Fleming (So., Greensboro, N.C., Business Management) knocked down 135 pins in his lone game.

The Statesmen once again had a JV squad on the lanes and the crew placed fourth out of 12 teams with 8,123 pins. Connor Rissi (Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Psychology) averaged 191.7 pins to guide William Penn.

“Overall, this week was not bad, but if there is one thing we can take away, it is that we are all family,” Head Coach Cameron Foster said. “I was unable to finish coaching the second tournament due to illness and I am grateful for the coaching staff and a group of players who all stepped in and helped in my absence. They got us through the home stretch, showing the trust everyone has in each other.”

Next Up: William Penn is off during the month of January, returning to action on February 3-4 when it travels to West Lawrence, Kan. to compete in the NAIA Weekend #1.
