WPU Falls to #8 Central Methodist in Season Finale

Fayette, Mo.–The Statesmen women’s soccer team came up short in its final game of the year, falling 7-0 to #8 Central Methodist in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

William Penn (3-12-1, 3-8-1 Heart) was unable to get anything going all day, while CMU (14-2-1, 10-0-1 Heart) jumped out to any early 1-0 lead just three minutes into play.

The first goal gave the home team confidence as the Eagles found the net three more times before halftime.

Central Methodist tacked on three additional goals in the second period over the span of 12 minutes. WPU put a shot on goal late in the contest, but was denied.

Taylor Witthauer (Jr., Vancouver, Wash., Nursing) and Elycia Cooley (Fr., Galveston, Texas. Business Management) both attempted a shot, while Megan Cox (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev., New Media) tallied eight saves in the loss.

“This was a tough way to end the season,” Head Coach Andy Commins said. “Our young players gained a lot of experience, however, in playing a very good team like Central Methodist. It gives them a mark to shoot for during the offseason.”
