WPU Expected to Finish Ninth in Heart

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s volleyball team will enter 2019 coming off a much-improved season and looking to make a move in the Heart of America Athletic Conference this upcoming fall as the preseason coaches’ poll was released Tuesday.

William Penn, which was 19-15 last year (6-12 Heart), is projected to finish 10th in the 13-team league.

Grand View, who has won the last three conference titles, is predicted to gather another crown as it sits atop the rankings, while Central Methodist is second. Benedictine, Clarke, and Baker round out the top five.

Evangel, Mount Mercy, and Graceland have also been chosen to finish in front of the Statesmen, while Missouri Valley, Peru State, MidAmerica Nazarene, and Culver-Stockton finish off the list.

The navy and gold begin their second campaign under the direction of Head Coach Aleesha Cleaver on August 23 and 24 by competing in the KCAC Fall Fling. The Statesmen begin Heart play on September 4 with a road contest versus Central Methodist at 7 p.m.
