Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s soccer team will look to turn some heads as the Midwest Collegiate Conference preseason coaches’ poll was released today.

William Penn, which was 6-13 last year (1-5 MCC), received 15 points to sit in sixth place in the seven-team league.

Defending regular season and tournament winner St. Ambrose is a big favorite to again finish at the top, collecting 48 points and six first-place votes. Viterbo received the final first-place selection as it claimed 43 points.

Grand View is third with 35 points, while AIB (27) and Clarke (22) are also ahead of the Statesmen. Mount Mercy wraps up the poll with seven points.

WPU opens 2014 on August 26 by hosting Central Methodist (Mo.). The Statesmen play their first MCC contest at home against Grand View on October 1.
