Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s cross country team has placed earning respect as its top goal this fall after being picked to finish last in the Midwest Collegiate Conference preseason coaches’ poll which was released today.

William Penn is expected to replicate last year’s sixth-place finish by collecting just eight points.

St. Ambrose is a unanimous choice to defend its 2013 championship, while Mount Mercy is not too far behind in second with 29 points.

Grand View and Viterbo are in third and fourth place, respectively, with 21 and 18 points, while Clarke is fifth with 14 points.

WPU starts the campaign in Indianola on August 29 at the Simpson Bill Buxton Invitational. The six programs will fight for the MCC crown on November 8 in La Crosse, Wis.
