Wilma Grace LaMar, age 96, of Albia, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Monroe Care Center in Albia. Wilma was born on June 17, 1923, at home in Lockman, IA, to William Thomas and Ruth Ann (DeMoss) Edgington.

Wilma grew up and attended country school.

On December 4, 1947, she married Clyde Melvin Harris. To this union, 3 children were born: Robert, Linda and Jeff. They shared 19 years of marriage prior to his passing August 4, 1967. Wilma later married Charles “Chuck” Joseph LaMar on May 28, 1985. They shared 22 years of marriage prior to his passing on June 26, 2007.

Wilma worked at the Quality Bakery on the Albia square before going to work in the bakery at Hy-Vee, retiring in 1985.

Wilma enjoyed camping, being outdoors, going for rides around the lake and embroidering. In their younger years, she and Chuck enjoyed dancing. She was an excellent cook and baker, known for her green rice and cherry cheesecake. Above all, Wilma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Wilma is survived by her children: Robert Harris of Albia, Linda (& Dan) Smead of Muscatine, IA, and Jeff (& Lisa) Harris of Albia; a stepdaughter, Sandra Trissel of Fort Collins, CO; 6 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde Harris and Chuck LaMar; her parents, William and Ruth Ann Edginton; two sisters, LaRue Anderson and Marie Moore; two brothers, Gale and Arthur Edgington; and a grandson, Danny Trissel.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Wilma’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating.
Burial will follow services in Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia.
