Grand Rapids, Mich.–The Statesmen volleyball team had little luck in its final tournament of the year at the Aquinas/Cornerstone Tournament Friday and Saturday.

William Penn (2-25) opened the weekend with 3-0 losses on Friday to Siena Heights (Mich.) (19-25, 23-25, 20-25) and Lawrence Tech (Mich.) (28-30, 16-25, 22-25). The team then lost 3-0 on Saturday to hosts Aquinas (Mich.) (17-25, 21-25, 12-25) and Cornerstone (Mich.) (8-25, 15-25, 12-25).

Siena Heights 3, WPU 0–In a match in which the team was outhit .149-.056, Kylie Giger (Jr., Elkhart, Ind., Exercise Science) tallied a squad-best nine kills.

Leyra Jusino (Jr., Bayamon, P.R., General Biology) managed 21 assists, while Shawni Wills (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) and Kayce Skocko (Jr., Watsonville, Calif., Business Management) both served up three aces. Danielle Breeher (Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Undecided) posted 12 digs.

Lawrence Tech 3, WPU 0–In its most competitive match, WPU was paced by Giger’s ten kills. Skocko added eight, while Jusino assisted on 25 winners.

Breeher and Giger contributed two aces and Breeher also topped WPU with 16 digs. Ana Gutch (Sr., Eddyville, Iowa, Secondary Education) finished with two solo blocks as the navy and gold lost the hitting battle .154-.104.

Aquinas 3, WPU 0–Giger’s 12 kills tied for the match high. Skocko added seven points and Jusino came up with 29 assists. Wills (two aces), Giger (14 digs), and Gutch (two block assists) also contributed in the contest that witnessed Aquinas holding a .273-.076 hitting edge.

Cornerstone 3, WPU 0—The Statesmen ran into a buzzsaw in their tournament finale, allowing Cornerstone to hit .402, while being limited to -.055 themselves.

Giger tallied six kills and Jusino had a double-double with 17 assists and ten digs. Giger was named a first-team all-tournament team selection, while Breeher earned honorable-mention status.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to host #15 Grand View in Midwest Collegiate Conference action at 7:30 p.m.
