Oskaloosa–Several sports teams at William Penn University have been spending some quality time in Oskaloosa recently.

Nearly 30 members of the men’s and women’s cross country teams helped with the First Annual Juvenile 5K Ghoul Gallop this past Sunday. The run had around 15 participants. Senior Rosemary Bailey spoke with the runners about the Champions of Character’s five core values prior to the race. Proceeds from this event were donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Another recent event saw 39 members of the men’s and women’s track and field programs helping unload and sort books at the annual AAUW book drive. Head Coach Allen Friesen loves the event and how it helps WPU.

“This is a great organization that gives scholarship money to women to attend William Penn University,” Friesen said. “The track and field program is proud and honored to be a part of this organization for the past three years.”

There was also a Fall Fitness Day at Oskaloosa Elementary School recently that had several participants from the softball, football, wrestling, and women’s soccer teams. Over 1,100 students and staff at the elementary were thrilled with the event and with the participation from the Statesmen athletes.
