William Penn Officially Ends Year at Grand View Event

Polk City–The Statesmen men’s golf team played one last swan song for its coach and two seniors as it competed at the Grand View Viking Classic last Friday.

William Penn, which added the tournament at the start of last week, placed second out of two teams with a score of 344 at the par-72 Tournament Club of Iowa Golf Course. Kirkwood CC was the only other program to field a full team, winning the event with a 308.

David Walter of Grand View won the individual medalist honor with a one-under 71.

Adriaan de Villiers (Sr., Akasia, South Africa, Industrial Technology) led the navy and gold with a 78 in his final tournament appearance, while fellow senior Seb Stobart (Harare, Zimbabwe, Business Management) was 15th at 83. Buster Albertson also concluded his tenure as the team’s head coach. He guided the program the past five seasons.

Byron Lindeque (So., Boksburg, South Africa, General Accounting) was 16th at 85, while Terence Schafer (Fr., Solwezi, Zambia), in 19th at 98, and Kaden VanMaanen (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Secondary Education), in 20th at 102, rounded out the squad’s scoring.
