William Penn Loses Opener to Concordia (Neb.)
Seward, Neb.–The Statesmen soccer team began its fall with a tough outing, falling 5-0 to Concordia (Neb.) in non-conference action Saturday.
William Penn (0-1), who was outshot 31-11, gave up a goal in the 20th minute and the Bulldogs ran away with it from that point. The home team added one more in the first stanza and put three additional shots in the back of the net in the second half.
Daniel Beseau (So., Florissant, Mo., Timberland HS) topped the offense with four shots, including three on goal, while Mark Dryden (So., Arbroath, Scotland, Arbroath HS) and Brandon Nicholson (Jr., Cedar Falls, Cedar Falls HS) both managed multiple shots with two each.
Sam Gurski (So., Beaumont, Texas, West Brook HS) tallied ten saves, but unfortunately it was far from enough in the setback.
Next: William Penn remains on the road next weekend, traveling to Whiting, Ind. for the Calumet-St. Joseph Tournament. The Statesmen face Marygrove (Mich.) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and then play again Sunday in either the championship or consolation game.
