Hafner guided William Penn to its fifth league crown in 2010 and its first since 1976. The team finished 10-1, tying the school record for wins, and also broke NAIA single-season marks for total rushing yards and yards per attempt. Numerous other school marks were set in 2010.

The 2008 and 2010 Midwest League Coach of the Year, Hafner was also the recipient of the VSN NAIA Coach of the Year and the NFCA Region 2 Coach of the Year honors. As skipper, he has produced 98 all-conference players and 12 All-Americans.

Prior to his career at William Penn, Hafner had coaching stops at Carl Junction HS, Southwest Baptist University, Emporia State University, and Pittsburg State University (student coach).

Hafner graduated from Pittsburg State in 1994 with a degree in mathematics.

To conclude the 2010 season, William Penn dropped St. Francis (Ill.) 24-7 for a share of the MWL title.

The defense forced six turnovers and Shawn Davis (So., Hamersville, Ohio, Western Brown HS) rumbled for 143 yards on 14 carries. Parsons rushed for one score and passed for another.

Chris Ruff led the defensive unit with 17 tackles and an interception.

For the 2010 year, Davis led the William Penn offense with 1,042 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, while Parsons was right behind with 1,010 yards and a school-record 20 scores.

Seven other players were also over the century mark in rushing.

With such a potent running attack, the passing game took a back seat. Parsons completed 51-of-97 passes for 901 yards and seven TDs.

Bernard Luster led the receiving corps with 26 catches for 483 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, Ruff played in only seven games, but still headed the crew with 63 tackles. Jacob Batterson (So., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) had a squad-best four interceptions, while Reggie Franco topped everyone with 4.5 sacks. Damon Harrison (Sr., Lake Charles, La., Lake Charles Boston HS) headlined the defense with 11 tackles for loss.

Marcus Kerrigan (So., Cary, Ill., Cary-Grove HS) guided the kicking effort as he was 48-for-53 in extra points and 7-for-9 in field goals. William Penn utilized two punters, Kerrigan and Jason Johnson (So., Geneseo, Ill., Geneseo HS). Johnson punted 19 times for a 40.1 yard average, while Kerrigan kicked 15 times for a clip of 34.9 yards.

Andrew Harris was the squad’s best return man with a 20.2 yard average on 13 kickoffs, while DeMarco Sanders (Sr., Horn Lake, Miss., Horn Lake HS) owned a 12.6 yard mark on five punt returns. Sanders actually had the best kick return average (23.0), but on just seven attempts.

William Penn is picked to win the Midwest League, the first time it has been chosen as the favorite since joining the MSFA in 2002.
