William Penn 2023-2024 Shotgun Sports Season Preview

The William Penn shotgun sports team is back at the range looking for a three-peat as it heads into the 2023-2024 season.

Head Coach Steve Heaton led the Statesmen to an NCSSAA Division IV national crown last March and is thick with returning talent. The squad is also expecting a massive influx of incoming talent to bolster its roster.

The returning talent is loaded down with hardware from a year ago. In addition to the national title, WPU is returning one individual High Overall Athlete national champion, 13 All-Americans, five individual discipline national champions, and 13 individual HOA winners from the regular season.

Including nationals, William Penn won eight tournaments a year ago.

Leading the way will be KayLynn Sieber (Jr., Marshall, Minn., Biology), who won the NCSSAA Female HOA national title. All-Americans Raylee Bishop (Jr., Ankeny, Iowa, Engineering), Mathew Brindley (Jr., Earlham, Iowa, Industrial Technology), Hunter Block (Sr., Eldridge, Iowa, Business Management), Dryden DeKoning (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Business Management), Colten Uitermarkt (Grad., Otley, Iowa, Master’s of Organizational Leadership), and Russell Malterud (Grad., North Branch, Minn., Master’s of Organizational Leadership) are back in the navy and gold as well.

The squad’s returning depth also includes the likes of Lane Arrowood (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Biology), Bryon Baca (Grad., Colorado Springs, Colo., Master’s of Organizational Leadership), Holly Boeke (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology), Cade Bowie (So., Benton, Ark., Business Management), Noah DeBoef (Jr., Leighton, Iowa, Industrial Technology), Kade Dunkin (Jr., Hamilton, Iowa, Biology), Ashley Hunter (Jr., Indianola, Iowa, Biology), Caytlin Pendleton (Jr., West Jordan, Utah, Communications), Noah Seelye (Jr., Pella, Iowa, Industrial Technology), Adison Sholes (Jr., Indianola, Iowa, Business Management), and Carver Van Zee (So., Pella, Iowa, Industrial Technology) to name a few.

Newcomers Connor Gittings (Jr., Kansas City, Mo., Biology), Colton Heintz-Kuderer (Fr., Mabel, Minn., Biology), Cole Henning (Fr., Wilton, Iowa), Morgan Hodge (Fr., West Liberty, Iowa, Nursing), Wyatt Kresser (Fr., Independence, Iowa, Business Management), Nikolle Kussatz (Fr., Leighton, Iowa, Biology), Tanner Muff (So., Lincoln, Neb., General Accounting), Jaxon Smith (Fr., Yuba City, Calif., Industrial Technology), Emily Uitermarkt (Jr., Otley, Iowa, Elementary Education), and Angie Wolfert (Jr., Waterford, Wis.) are ready to make their mark as well.

Schedule

WPU opens up its campaign Saturday in Riverside at the Coe Invitational. The fall will consist of eight tournaments, including the Statesmen hosting the William Penn Invitational on October 14-15 in Pella at Black Oak Clays.
