William “Bill” Messamaker , 57, of Evans died Friday, June 10, 2022, at his home in Evans. He was born August 9, 1964, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Ronald Lloyd and Marilyn McMurray Messamaker.

Bill graduated from Russell High School with the class of 1982.

Later that year Bill was united in marriage to Karlyn Shounkwiler. To this union three children were born Ronald, Russell, and Julie.

Bill served in the United States Army from 1982 until his honorable discharge in 1990.

Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Russell for a short time and eventually settled in Harvey. Bill and Karlyn divorced after several years of marriage.

Bill later met his longtime companion, Kimberly Edgington. Kim and Bill had three children Belinda, William “Cody”, and Miranda. Kim preceded him in death in 2013.

Bill was a talented fabricator and painter. He worked at Vermeer in Pella for many years as a painter. He then went on to work at Johnson Machine and last for PAMCO. He enjoyed his time at PAMCO, his ability to build, fix, and machine nearly anything helped him move into a supervisor role. He retired from there in July of 2021.

Bill enjoyed being busy working on and building things in his shop. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a devoted father that would do anything for his children.

His family includes his six children: Ronald Messamaker of Oskaloosa, Russell Messamaker of Des Moines, Julie (& Cole) Messamaker of Indianola, Belinda Edgington of Davenport, William Cody Messamaker of Oskaloosa, and Miranda Messamaker of Oskaloosa; eleven grandchildren: Skyler, Chase, Dylan, Carter, Haylee, Nolan, and River Messamaker, Alexis Fletcher, Brayden Messamaker, Taylor Burk, and Kollin Burk; three step grandchildren: Adam Packard, Ethan and Isabella Messamaker; his mother, Marilyn (& Jay) Galvin of Oskaloosa; his father, Ronald Messamaker of Tracy; his step mother, Linda Messamaker of Indianola; a brother, Gerrit Messamaker of Oskaloosa; an adopted brother, Kevin McMurray; two step brothers, Clayton (& Emily) Budding of Indianola and Michael Budding of Waynesville, Missouri; a step sister, Deanna Budding of Emporia, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Kimberly Edgington, and his grandparents.

As was Bill’s wish his body has been cremated and no services are planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
