Whitehead, Miller Named to NFCA Teams
Oskaloosa–William Penn’s top pitcher and best hitter from this spring were honored one more time as the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its NAIA All-Region teams.
Southpaw pitcher Jennifer Whitehead (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) and second baseman Molly Miller (Sr., Kalona, Iowa, Business Management) both earned second-team recognition. The NFCA awards are the second for both players with Whitehead garnering first-team honors last year.
Whitehead, who was the Midwest Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year, finished her junior year with a 15-10 record and guided the Statesmen to a 32-21 mark (12-8 MCC). The junior owned a 1.74 Earned Run Average, appeared in 30 games (26 starts), and recorded 24 complete games (four shutouts) in 173 1/3 innings of work. She struck out 183 batters against 49 walks, while opponents hit just .199 against her.
Miller hit .395 (68-for-172) with eight doubles, one triple, 33 runs scored, and 25 RBIs. She posted a .453 slugging percentage and a team-high .441 on-base clip (11 BB, 3 HBP). The senior had a nine-game hitting streak earlier in the year.
