Whitehead Gets Third MCC Honor of 2012

Jennifer Whitehead

Oskaloosa–Jennifer Whitehead (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) received her fifth career league honor as the Midwest Collegiate Conference weekly softball honors were announced today.

Whitehead, a three-time winner this year, guided William Penn (41-15) to a 2-1 record last week and an appearance in tomorrow’s finals of the MCC First Round Pod Tournament.

The sophomore southpaw tossed all 18 2/3 innings last week as she warmed up for the long postseason haul. She shut out St. Ambrose last Saturday (her ninth of the year) and finished with an incredible 22 strikeouts against just one walk. Opponents hit only .175 against her.

For the year, Whitehead is 20-9 with a 1.41 Earned Run Average in 183 2/3 innings. She has 27 complete games, one more combined shutout, 162 strikeouts, and 49 walks. Opponents are hitting .207 against the sophomore.

The award is the seventh for the program this year.
