Warren E. McBurney, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Warren was born July 10, 1929, in Oskaloosa, the son of Charles and Mabel Brown McBurney. He graduated from the Cedar High School with the class of 1947. Shortly after high school graduation, his father passed away and Warren took up the reins of the farm and his farming career began. On February 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Mika at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. Together they raised crops and livestock on their farm southeast of Cedar. In 1996, they retired from farming and moved into Oskaloosa.

Warren enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Weslaco, Texas, and camping at the Iowa State Fair. He was a member of the Cedar United Methodist Church and the Central United Methodist Church after moving to Oskaloosa. He had also served on the Cedar School Board. Warren delighted in being with his family and being on the farm.

His family includes his wife of over 63 years, Evelyn McBurney of Oskaloosa; three children and their spouses, Gary and Dana McBurney of Owasso, Oklahoma, Terry and Patricia McBurney of Cedar and Denise and Scott Johnson of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren, Kendra (& Jim) Gelinas, Cory (& Liz) McBurney, Ashley McBurney, Jessica Johnson and Jadra Johnson; three great grandchildren, David Gelinas, Kate Lynn McBurney and Natalie McBurney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Andrew McBurney, and a brother, Orville McBurney.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Tom Boomershine officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday morning after 10 in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House or Central United Methodist Church.
