Wanda DeFrehn, 87, of Grand Island, Nebraska and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Friday, April 20, 2018. Wanda was born Sunday, August 24, 1930, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Clifford Michael and Anna Regina Medhaugh Denney.

Wanda graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the Class of 1948.

On October 17, 1948, Wanda was united in marriage to Gerald J. “Pete” DeFrehn in Oskaloosa, Pete died February 20, 2007.

Following marriage, Wanda stayed home to raise her family. She had a keen eye for jewelry and enjoyed collecting and wearing unique items.

Wanda enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino with her family to play the slot machines and she was a very talented egg painter. She also enjoyed going to auctions, refinishing furniture, being outdoors and tending to her flower gardens. She will be remembered for her kind loving spirit.

She is survived by her two daughters: Sharon Breaman and Marcy DeFrehn both of Grand Island; two sons: Jerry DeFrehn of Grand Island and Tim DeFrehn of Ceresco, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Jeremy Vogel, Nick Vogel and Chris Vogel; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Joan Holiday.

Graveside funeral service and burial will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 1 P.M. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating.
A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Thursday at 12:40 p.m. for those wishing to go to the cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, April 25, 2018, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the family present at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
