Dream Big Grow Here is a contest that enables Iowa Innovation Gateway to learn more about the region’s entrepreneurs while providing entrepreneurs an opportunity to promote either their proposed business or their dreams for their current business. Iowa Innovation Gateway wants all area entrepreneurs to dream big and then grow their dream right here in the IIG region.

Mahaska County has one business participating in the contest this year. Lisa Van Gilst and Brenda Sytsma are in the beginning stages of planning their business, Silver Elements. Lisa stated, “We provide special event rentals and design services. We consult with those planning a special event and then help them create a moment to remember.”

Silver Elements hopes to offer unique pieces to their clients, not the cookie cutter items most rentals offer. They will offer a wide variety of items to rent. Lisa and Brenda will help you design your centerpieces and décor as well as make them if necessary. They will also offer dress touch up, rehearsal help, candid photography and reception floor planning as well as the table top planning.

Lisa commented, “We are very excited to start on this dream journey. We realize there are many steps to starting a new business and there will be challenges. Our hope is that we will get to do what we love as well as love what we do.”

Please help them with their dream by voting at www.dreambiggrowhere.com. Click on Mahaska County on the map, then click the green “Vote” tab, scroll down until you find Lisa and Brenda’s dream! You can vote once a day, every day from October 1 – 15. DON’T FORGET TO VOTE! The top five dreams with the most number of votes will get to pitch their dream to the judges to possibly win $5000! If you have questions please call Deann De Groot at 641-672-2591 or email mcard@mahaskacounty.org.
