Virginia Turner, 87, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born June 27, 1926, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Barney and Myrtle Maxwell Brom.

Virginia graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1944. She continued her schooling at Indiana School for Telegraph, graduating from there in 1944. She worked as a Western Union Operator in Ames, Carroll, and Pella. On March 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to George Turner in Oskaloosa, George died December 17, 2011. Virginia worked for the Oskaloosa Sale Barn Restaurant until her retirement in 1986.

Virginia enjoyed cooking and canning. She delighted in spending time with her family.

Virginia is survived by four children: Duane (& Vannette) Turner of Sacramento, California; Beverly Williams of New Sharon, Iowa; Ronald (& Carolyn) Turner and Marla (& Dan) Thomas all of Oskaloosa, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Stephanie (& David) Soileau, Jill (& Brian) Enney, Michael Turner, Ron Turner, Marci Turner, Alicia (& Brad) Cartwright, and Cody Thomas; 6 great grandsons: Donald, Adam, Zachary, Austin, Jacob, and Bradyn; a great great grandson: Roberto; her sister: Jane Terpstra of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son in law: Dick Williams; and two sisters: Jean Beadle-Lanphier and Phyllis Hamman.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday morning after 11:00 in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
