Virginia Puyear, 74, of rural Tracy, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, Iowa. She was born September 13, 1948, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Viola Beyer Sytsma.

Virginia graduated from Twin Cedars High School with the class of 1966.

Following graduation, she went to work at Rolscreen (now Pella Corp.) in Pella, Iowa.

On October 14, 1972, she was united in marriage to Clark Puyear in Pella.

Virginia babysat for some locals for a couple years before going to work at Pella Corp, she continued working at Pella Corp. until her retirement in 2001, after 33 years of service.

She was an avid bowler and was part of many bowling leagues in the area including the Wednesday Early Risers league. Virginia and Clark traveled all over competing in state and national bowling events. They both loved taking gambling trips and playing cards with friends. She also enjoyed camping at the Iowa State Fair where she also volunteered for many years. Family was very important to Virginia, she looked forward to Sunday dinners at the farm, family get togethers, and especially the many “sisters” trips that she took with her sisters over the years. Virginia also enjoyed quilting and visiting quilting shops throughout the Midwest.

Her family includes her son and his wife, Wade and Johanna Puyear of rural Tracy; two grandchildren, Brandon and Isabelle Puyear; her siblings and their spouses: Larry (& Linda) Sytsma of rural Knoxville, Margaret (& Edward) Karr of Knoxville, Jim (& Cindee) Sytsma of rural Tracy, Marla (& Robert) Kephart of rural Knoxville, Leroy (& Jean) Sytsma of Oskaloosa, Cleo (& Roger) DeGroot of rural Oskaloosa, Judy (& Steve) Kingery of rural Knoxville, Debbie (& Jerry) Shaw of Knoxville, and Carol (& Chris) Stewart of Knoxville; brother-in-laws, Charlie Puyear of rural Knoxville and Randy (& Patty) Puyear of rural Tracy; very close friends, Hershel and Bev Stevenson of Pella; and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Clark on July 17, 2008; her parents; and her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Virginia Puyear.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 24, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating.
As was Virginia’s wish her body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 3-5 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Clay Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue or Twin Cedars Dollars for Scholars.
