Villa Places to Lead WPU at Grand View Open
Des Moines–Angel Villa (Fr., Deming, N.M., General Accounting) was victorious on four occasions Saturday as the competed at the Grand View Open.
Villa finished fifth at 125 pounds with a 4-2 record, including one fall and one major decision.
Unfortunately, on a day in which the Statesmen had limited grapplers on the mat, only 149-pounders Marshawn Lacy (Sr., Chicago Heights, Ill., Computer Science) and Lane Colwell (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Computer Science) also had multiple wins. Both went 2-2 with one major decision.
125-pounder Andrew Gorman (So., Madison Heights, Mich., Business Management) and 141-pounder Adam Habeil (So., Mulberry, Fla., Physical Education) pinned an opponent, while 165 Johnny Hopper (Fr., Basehor, Kan., Psychology) had a win as well.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Sioux City next Saturday to compete in the Briar Cliff Open. Action begins at 9 a.m.
