Oskaloosa, Iowa (July 3rd, 2014) – The second night of the 19th Annual Budweiser Great American Stock Car Shootout and Inaugural Merv Chandler Memorial saw beautiful skies and some great racing all night long. Also the inaugural class of the Southern Iowa Speedway Hall of Fame was announced and will be inducted into the hall of fame in a couple of weeks during the fair.

First feature of the night was the KBOE Radio IMCA SportMods 15 lap event. Curtis VanDerWal started outside row two and grabbed the lead on the opening lap. VanDerWal appeared to be heading on to the easy win but then the caution came out on lap nine when Logan Anderson experienced troubles in turn four. VanDerWal continued to lead only to see the caution come out again on lap ten for Charlie Weber and Jason Hall getting together in turn two. VanDerWal managed to lead the remaining five laps to take his fourth win of the season in Osky. Ryan Fullenkamp worked his way to runner up spot after the restart on lap ten. Jason McDaniel, Brayton Carter and Brett Lowry rounded out the top five.

Out next was the 20 lap Merv Chandler Memorial for IMCA Sport Compacts and before a single lap was completed the caution came out when Shaun Slaughter came to a stop in turn four after a wheel came off. On the restart, it was Merv’s son Nathan Chandler taking the lead. Chandler pulled away only to see the caution come out again on lap eight when Barry Taft lost a tire then went over the turn one wall. Chandler did not let that bother him as he would lead the remaining 12 laps to take the win despite challenges from Bill Whalen and Austen Beccera. Beccera finished second, Whalen was third, Brandon Lambert was fourth and Cody Cleghorn was fifth.

Pepsi Cola IMCA Hobby Stocks 22 lap feature saw the caution come out twice before a single lap was completed. First caution was actually a red flag when “The Mayor” John Watson saw his machine flip upside down in turn four, he collected Jason See and Dusty Van Horn. On the restart, the caution came out again when Dale Porter hit the front stretch wall collecting Aaron Martin. Finally when the race got started it was Shannon Anderson taking the early lead but that would be short lived as Oskaloosa’s Mike Hughes took the lead away on lap two. Hughes and Anderson saw the caution come out when Gina Greubel spun in turn two. The only thing that would slow Hughes was lap traffic but he was not to be denied the win. Anderson tried to get back by Hughes but settled for second. Dustin Griffiths finished third, Craig Brown was fourth and Eric Stanton was fifth.

Final Feature of the night was Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars 25 lap Great American Stock Car Shootout event. Damon Murty grabbed the lead on lap one but it was Derrick Agee taking the lead on lap two. Agee continued to lead until Zack Vanderbeek worked his way up to take the lead away on lap ten. Vanderbeek began to pull away and looked as if he was going to take the easy win but then the only race caution came out on lap 20 when Kris Walker came to a stop in turn four. Vanderbeek had Damon Murty and Derrick Agee on the back bumper on the restart and held them off but Cayden Carter worked his way to second spot on lap 23 and battled his Orange Crush Teammate the final two laps but it was Vanderbeek taking his second consecutive IMCA Stock Car Shootout win at Osky. Carter and Murty was second and third. Jason Minnehan was fourth and Agee was fifth. McFarland Pain Clinic Hard Charger of the race was Brad Pinkerton after moving up 12 spots from 18th to sixth.
