Valerie Provenzano, 56, of Oskaloosa, and recently Coralville, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015, from Lymphoma at the Windmill Manor Nursing Home in Coralville. Valerie Diana Provenzano, daughter of Frank James and Diana Laura (Gravitt) Provenzano, was born, April 8, 1959, in Pekin, Illinois.

Valerie was a 1978 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and then attended Central College in Pella for a year.

Valerie worked in food service for 20 years at Central College and later at Drake University in Des Moines. In 2004, she returned to Oskaloosa and worked in Hy-Vee kitchen. She remained there for five years when her health required her retirement in 2009.

Valerie was a resident at Country Life Health Care from 2010 to 2015; she transferred to Windmill Manor in Coralville in February 2015 to receive treatment for her cancer.

Valerie was a past member of the Elks and she attended the First Christian Church. She enjoyed reading, sightseeing, Sunday afternoon dinners with her family, and her cats.

Her family includes her mother, Diana Provenzano of Grinnell; two brothers: Vincent and Raymond Provenzano of Oskaloosa; a grandmother, Lucille Gravitt of Oskaloosa; an aunt, Linda Edwards of Oskaloosa; and cousins: Scott, Bobby, Shelly and David Edwards.

In addition to her father, Valerie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Walter Gravitt; and an aunt, Gloria Ballou.

As was her wish, Valerie’s body has been cremated.
Burial of her ashes will be in Forest Cemetery at a later date. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
