After School Fun: Turtle Races!
Wednesday, Feb. 6th
3:00 – 4:00 pm at Russell Wildlife Area
For many schools in the area, school is let out early this day. So come out and join Naturalist Laura DeCook in the conservation center to learn about turtles in Iowa and take part in a turtle race. Please call MCCB at (641)673-9327 if you plan on attending.

Basket Class
Saturday, Feb. 23rd
8:00 a.m. – Noon at Russell Wildlife Area
Naturalist Laura DeCook will share her hobby of hand-weaving baskets with you. She will teach the history of basket making and how to make a basket with a wooden base and mold. Class size is limited to 10 people. Pre-registration is required and the cost is $20.00 per person. This class is recommended for ages 10 and older. Call (641)673-9327 to sign up. Maple Syrup Festival
Saturday, March 2nd
Eveland Access
Noon – 4:00 p.m.
Don’t miss this event! Throughout the afternoon, MCCB staff and volunteers will demonstrate how to tap maple trees and how to make maple syrup. You can explore the black maple sugar bush, the old barn and a Native American sugaring camp. Park at the Eveland Access Campground and catch a hayride up the hill to the sugar shack. The hayride leaves every half hour. Bring your appetites for fresh maple syrup on ice cream! This event is for all ages.

The Russell Wildlife Area is located 4 miles north of Oskaloosa on Hwy. 63 and one mile east on 200th Street (from Osky, take first gravel road to the right after crossing South Skunk River).

Eveland Access is located 4 miles south of Beacon on T39 adjacent to the Des Moines River.
