Uitermarkt to Take Reins of Shotgun Sports Program

Oskaloosa–William Penn University Athletics Director Aleesha Rabedeaux is proud to announce the hiring of Colten Uitermarkt as the new Head Shotgun Sports Coach.

A native of Otley, Uitermarkt recently concluded a two-year appointment as a graduate assistant coach for William Penn. During his tenure as both a coach and athlete, he helped the Statesmen win the NCSSAA Division IV national title in 2023 and also place third in the ACUI Division I standings in 2024.

The Statesmen, who also secured numerous tournament crowns, were exceptional in the classroom, headlined by leading the entire nation with 17 academic honorees in 2024.

“We are delighted to add Coach Uitermarkt to our team and for him to lead our shotgun sports program,” Rabedeaux said. “Having spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant, working closely with Coach Steve Heaton, Colten has played an integral part in our program and the success that has been achieved. We are excited for his energy and fresh perspective, and I have no doubt that under his guidance, our program will continue to thrive and reach new heights.”

Uitermarkt earned his Master’s of Organizational Leadership degree from WPU in 2024. He is also a 2022 graduate of Concordia University in Seward, Neb. with a degree in Biology and Environmental Science.

Holding a Level 1 shotgun certification from the National Rifle Association and a coaching certification from the Scholastic Clay Target Program, Uitermarkt has been a traveling private instructor since 2022.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity to work with a group of amazing young athletes,” Uitermarkt said. “My goal is to continue the wonderful culture that Steve Heaton started with the program four years ago.”

Uitermarkt, who is a 2018 graduate of Pella Christian High School, is a member of the Marion County Sportsman Club Board and is on the Pella Christian Clay Target Team Leadership Committee.
