Tyler Zickefoose
August 23, 1998 – July 30, 2016
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 17

Tyler Zickefoose, 17, of Oskaloosa died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, in the same room he was treated in for his injuries following his accident, while being cared for by his favorite nurse Abby. Tyler was born August 23, 1998, in Pella, Iowa, the son of Shane and Mindy Fisher Zickefoose.

Tyler attended school in Oskaloosa and was preparing for his senior year at Oskaloosa High School. He had been involved in football, baseball, and wrestling.

When Tyler was in 5th grade he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In 2014, he was paralyzed from injuries received in an atv accident. Tyler’s life was changed by both of these conditions, however his positive attitude and his “will do” spirit were not hindered. He stayed active with his family, friends and teammates, and when he attended events his presence and cheering served as an inspiration to all. His friends could count on him to help out when he could. He enjoyed music, fishing, golfing, playing video games, and hanging out with his friends and family. He will be remembered for his quick wit and positive attitude.

His family includes his parents, Shane and Mindy Zickefoose of Oskaloosa; his sister, Peyton Zickefoose of Oskaloosa; maternal grandparents, Gary and Barb Fisher of Oskaloosa; paternal grandparents, Becky Zickefoose (& Brian Molyneux) of What Cheer and Phil Zickefoose of Camdenton, Missouri; maternal great grandparents, Bud and Alice Fisher of Reed Springs, Missouri; paternal great grandmother, Mary Brown of Mt. Pleasant; his close friend, Cody Jones of Oskaloosa; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his dog, Mac.

He was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, Daryl Brown and Orville & Gayle Zickefoose; maternal great grandmother, Jean Kelly; and maternal great grandfather, Albert Kelly.

As was Tyler’s wish his body has been cremated.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 9 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 3-8 Tuesday afternoon to greet friends and family.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Tyler Zickefoose Memorial Fund.
