Two bowlers from the Oskaloosa Boys Bowling Team qualified for the 2024 State Tournament.

Two bowlers from the Oskaloosa Boys Bowling Team qualified for the 2024 State Tournament.

The Oskaloosa Boys Bowling Team competed in the team and individual state qualifying tournament today at their home bowling center today.

The team event was first and the boys finished in 4th place just 13 pins out of 3rd place and only 32 pins away from the 2nd spot, which would’ve qualified them for team state. The Osky boys bowled great in the team event and just came up a little short. It really came down to the last couple baker games with 3 teams competing for the 2nd place team spot that qualify them for team state.
The Oskaloosa boys qualify two kids for the state individual championship and just missed qualifying a 3rd boy.

Trey Van Wyk took the top spot this year and qualified for the State singles championship as the district champion. Trey bowled a 755 series to take 1st place and had games of 256, 259 and a 240 game.
The singles competition only takes the top 8 individual scores and Cole VanderWal just missed that spot and finished in 9th place and was only 8 pins away from the 8th place finishing spot, which is where his teammate Jacob Schutz finished at and took the last spot that qualified him for the state tournament. Jacob Schutz just missed qualifying last year but was able to come through this year. Jacob had his high game of the season with a 264 game.

Marshall Seibert also bowled well today and finished in 20th place. That put 4 of the Osky bowler’s in the top 20 places and I think that is a pretty good showing for the boys bowling team.
