Top-20 Effort for Statesmen at Indiana Tournament

Indianapolis, Ind.–The William Penn men’s bowling team used a solid effort in team play to move up the ladder as it competed at the Columbia 300 Western Shootout Saturday and Sunday.

The Statesmen finished 15th out of 43 teams with 8,393 pins in six regular games and 15 Baker games. Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) headed the field with 9,240 pins, while the Crimson Wave also had the top individual as Jeffrey Holden posted a 229.3 average.

The navy and gold were 18th after regular play, but leap-frogged four programs during Baker competition.

Nick Walker (Jr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) led WPU with a 200.5 average in all six games. Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) was next with a 192.8 clip, while Sean Martin (Fr., Dayton, Ohio, Mechanical Engineering) tallied an average of 177.5; both started all six games.

Rok Kostric (Fr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management), at 199.5, and Quincy Bruce (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, General Accounting), at 182.3, rolled in four rounds. Aleksander Kostric (Fr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) averaged 155.5 pins in a pair of starts, while David Decker (So., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) (168) and Josh Fane (So., Brownsville, Wis., Business Management and Accounting) (157) both participated in one game.

The Statesmen put a second team on the lanes as well, finishing in 21st place with 8,100 pins. Noah Cheever (Fr., Dubuque, Iowa, Secondary Education) (192.7), Rylie Reidel (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) (189.7), Logan Mason (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) (188.3), and Mike Comstock (Fr., Pella, Iowa, General Accounting) (158.8) each started all six games.

Bret Keimig (Sr., Davenport, Iowa, Physical Education) headlined the other JV bowlers as he averaged 167.0 pins in three games. Braxton Coble (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Business Management) was good for a 168.0 clip in two games, and Austin Young (Fr., Iowa City, Iowa, Business Management) knocked down 167 pins in his lone start.

Next Up: William Penn is off for two weeks, next traveling to Davenport November 11-12 to compete in the ISYL Leatherneck Classic.
