Tickets Available For IHCC Soup For The Arts Scholarship

Indian Hills

OTTUMWA — Tickets for Indian Hills Community College’s bi-annual Soup for the Arts Scholarship Event are now available. It will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 22, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the IHCC Dining Room.

Each participant will receive a hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind bowl for $25 and the purchase entitles those who attend with as much soup as they care to eat, supplied by local restaurants and the IHCC Culinary Arts students, as well as bread and dessert.

Proceeds from the event will be divided among scholarships for IHCC Culinary Arts students and those in the college’s fine arts programs as well as the Heartland Humane Society.
This is the third time the college has hosted this event and each time it grows in popularity. Dr. Jennifer Boyenga, IHCC Director of Fine Arts, says, “There will be hundreds of bowls to choose from and each one is completely unique to the artist that created it.” The bowls have been shipped in from Indian Hills arts alumni from their artistic studios across Iowa and some from distant locations throughout the United States where IHCC alumni have located after graduation. Some of the bowls even come with a story about the artist that created it.

Art Professor Lisa Fritz says, “It takes two years for us to create and collect the number of bowls we need for this event. Some students create bowls for two years while they attend IHCC.” Bowls are made on the Centerville and Ottumwa campuses in ceramics courses taught by Fritz and Mark McWhorter.

Ticket sales are limited to the first 300 guests to ensure everyone gets a custom bowl. Tickets can be purchased online at www.indianhills.edu/news/events/soup.html
