Three WPU Gridiron Players Earn Academic All-District Awards
Oskaloosa–A trio of Statesmen football players were recognized for high achievements on and off the field as the College Sports Communicators academic all-district football teams were announced recently.
Ethan Olivas (Eddyville, Iowa, Mechanical Engineering) led the way with a 4.0 Grade Point Average, while Cael Crawford (So., Mount Vernon, Iowa, Business Management) was next at 3.78. Rives Grogan (Sr., Mansfield, Texas, Political Science) also qualified with a 3.68 GPA.
The award from CSC (formally College Sports Information Directors of America) recognizes athletes for their performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic all-district honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
Olivas made two field goals this fall (long of 37 yards), while also connecting on 16 of his 19 extra-point attempts.
Crawford punted 33 times with an average of 34.0 yards per attempt. The sophomore had a long of 57 yards with eight kicks landing inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.
Grogan rushed for four yards and caught three passes for eight yards.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must own a 3.50 GPA, be a starter or important reserve player, attend the nominating institution for at least one year, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
