Supervisors End 2019 With Reports And Appointment
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday, December 16, 2019.
The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors appointed John Bandstra to the South Central Regional Airport Agency Board.
Bandstra was selected from three applicants. Now former member Joe Warrick had reapplied for the position, as well as former Oskaloosa City Council member Jimmy Carter.
Other items on the agenda included a 4th quarter report from the Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group’s Ann Frost.
Frost spoke about the reorganization of those organizations, which include Mahaska County Supervisor Steve Wanders as a board member.
The group has conducted over 20 synchronist visits with area businesses as well as hosting six community tours for Mahaska Health.
Frost introduced Mike Jackson to the Board to talk about a recent trip he took to Chicago. Jackson is part of the Class of 2020 of ‘America’s Best Young Farmers.’
There are a total of five individuals in the class this year and is now in its 10th year of awards. Jackson is the 3rd such recipient from the State of Iowa.
Qualifications for the award include conservation and community involvement. Jackson’s work with the Iowa Farm Bureau and Mahaska County Farm Bureau, along with Ag in the Classroom, helped Jackson become qualified.
In other action:
*The Board approved a payroll change for Secondary Roads.
*Approved a liquor license for Debbie’s Celebration Barn
*Heard a report from Mahaska County Conservation Director Dave Sedivec.
*Set a time and date for review and reapprove the Code of Ordinances for Mahaska County. The Board tabled the agenda item until the next meeting.
*The Board discussed proposed language changes to the 28E for the South Central Behavioral Health Region.
