Supervisors Approve Deputy Medical Examiners

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Andrea Hagist, MHP Emergency Services Director, representing Dr. Matt Whitis, who is the current county medical examiner, asked the Mahaska County Supervisor to approve the addition of two new deputy medical examiners.

Hagist asked that Dr. Amanda Marino as well as Dr. Amy Montgomery, DO. be appointed to assist Whitis in his duties.

Also approved was the addition of three individuals as medical investigators. Medical investigators are used to do the initial death scene investigation. The MEI’s submitted were, Joshua Crouse, Jeremy Carmer and Andrea Hagist.

Supervisor Mark Doland asked Hagist about the definition of medical provider to make sure that a paramedic is classified as a medical provider. “Yes it is,” Hagist replied.

The motion to appoint the two new deputy medical examiners passed.

The supervisors then approved the appointment of the three medical investigators.

Removed from the list was; Dr. Shawn Dawson, Dr. Hart, Dr. Kunz and Bruce Spahr.

Also approved was the appointment of Mark Doland to represent Mahaska County to the Mental Health Regionalization advisory committee.

Approved was the Secondary Roads fiscal year 2014 budget and construction program.

The supervisors approved the hire of a part-time employee, James Smith, at Secondary Roads on a temporary seasonal basis.
