Steve M. Jones, 55, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, January 30, 2019, at his home in Keomah Village near Oskaloosa. He was born February 13, 1964, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Jack K. and Sally J. (Flayharty) Jones.
Steve attended the Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1982. The evening of graduation, Steve was sworn in and joined the United States Marine Corps. Steve took pride in serving his country and he was honorably discharged in 1984.
He was united in marriage to Eileen Osborn in 1991. Together they raised their daughter, Amber. Steve and Eileen later divorced. On July 4, 2010 he was united in marriage to Darcie Reed.
Steve began working at the Diamond Crystal Brands foodservice in Bondurant. He later took a job at Pella Corp where he was employed the last 20 years.
Steve was a member of the American Legion Post 34 in Oskaloosa. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals fan. He enjoyed game night with his family every month, playing pitch, cooking, riding motorcycles and weekend road trips with Darcie. He also enjoyed playing Tiger Woods Golf on Playstation with his brother and attending his grandchildren’s baseball games. Above all else, Steve enjoyed laughing with his family and friends and bringing a smile to those around him.
His family includes his wife, Darcie Jones of Keomah Village; his daughter, Amber (& Brady) DeWitt of New Sharon; his grandchildren, Keaton and Kiersten DeWitt; a niece/daughter, Jada West (& Sage Lafollette) of Oskaloosa; two brothers: Jeff (& Barb) Jones of Blue Springs, MO. and Scott Jones of Oskaloosa; his sister, Kathy Jones of Oskaloosa; four sisters-in-law: Lisa (& Shannon) Brackelsberg of What Cheer, Claira Thurman of Oskaloosa, Jennifer Hanigan of Oskaloosa and Melissa (& Chris) Roorda of What Cheer; He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Nancy Reed; his father-in-law, Tom (& Heather) Hanigan and many, many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Sally Jones.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Olivia Fabros officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa V.F.W. and American Legion. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
As a tribute to Steve, the family requests those that are attending to please wear Kansas City Chiefs or Kansas City Royals apparel if possible.
