Steve Moothart, 63 of New Sharon passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2019 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. Steven Lee Moothart, the son of Irwin “Red” and Wanda (Maxwell) Moothart, was born on March 12, 1956 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Steve was a 1974 graduate of North Mahaska High School.
On August 13, 1982, Steve was united in marriage to Penny Nicholson in Montezuma. To this union three children were born, Craig, Gene and Michelle.
Steve farmed in the New Sharon area most of his life and also worked several years in concrete construction. He most recently worked for Pella Concrete Contractors Inc. for over 15 years.
Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and tinkering. He was a wonderful brother, husband, father and grandfather, and absolutely enjoyed spending time with his family.
His legacy will be honored by his wife of 37 years, Penny Moothart of New Sharon; his children: Craig (& Sarah) Moothart of Grimes, Gene (& Jaime) Moothart of New Sharon and Michelle (& Will) Playle of Williamsburg; six grandchildren: Hunter Moothart, Theo Moothart, Zoey Moothart, Nora Moothart, Kirk Playle and Lea Playle; his brother, Mike (& Diane) Moothart of New Sharon and many other relatives and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Red and Wanda Moothart; and a sister in infancy, Cynthia Moothart.
A visitation will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
As was his wish, no services will be held. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the family’s name and will be used towards a veteran’s organization.
