Statesmen Unable to Maintain First-Half Lead, Fall 2-1 to Grand View
Oskaloosa—The William Penn women’s soccer team could not rally in the second half as they fell 2-1 to Grand View in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Wednesday.
WPU (6-9-2, 3-8-2), who outshot Grand View (3-10-2, 2-8-3) 15-12, came out of the gate strong when Sian Bah (Sr., London, England, Political Science) found her nineth goal of the season 24:41 into the first half, Bah was assisted by Rakiya Morgan-King (Jr., Gloucestershire, England, Kinesiology) and Heidi Gill (Buncrana, Ireland, Exercise Science). The Statesmen took that 1-0 advantage into the half.
WPU came out of the half flat-footed as the Vikings were able to even the score just 50 seconds in. The evening did not get better as Grand View found the game winning goal at the 77:00 mark.
Bah led the way for the Statesmen in shots as she finished with six and the lone Statesmen goal, while Anna Museler (Sr., Dresden, Germany, Engineering) was close behind with four.
Savannah Putman (Grad., Layton, Utah) had a busy day in goal, finishing with seven saves to keep the Statesmen in the game.
