Statesmen Teams 11th in Recent NAIA Polls

Oskaloosa–The William Penn bowling teams are both sitting just outside of the top 10 as the NAIA released its second set of coaches’ polls.

The WPU men are 11th with 21 points, while the women are also 11th with 19 points.

SCAD Savannah (Ga.) remains the unanimous #1 for the men with 66 points and all six first-place votes. Indiana Tech, Hastings (Neb.), Lawrence Tech (Mich.), and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) wrap up the top five.

Pikeville (Ky.) is again the women’s #1, holding three first-place votes as part of 49 points. SCAD Savannah is a close second with the final two first-place votes and 47 points. Midland (Neb.), St. Francis (Ill.), and Martin Methodist round out the top five.

Amongst all divisions in the entire nation, the collegebowling.com rankings have the Statesmen women at #39 (1,725 points), while the men are #50 (1,800 points). Both teams are still further down the rankings than they should be due to fewer competition than others; the Statesmen have only rolled in four tournaments thus far in 2019-2020. Only nine programs ahead of the women have bowled in four or fewer events, while only seven men’s squads have been in four or fewer.

Wright State (Ohio) leads the women’s standings (3,952 points), while McKendree (Ill.) is first on the men’s side with 4,750 points.
