Statesmen Receive One Vote in New Ranking
Oskaloosa–As hot as it has been all season, the William Penn men’s basketball team is again receiving a vote as the seventh NAIA Division II poll was released Monday.
William Penn (13-11, 8-4 MCC) is unofficially tied for 39th with one vote. The program, which fell to a season-worst 6-9 record on New Year’s Eve, has been extraordinary in 2012 by winning seven of its last nine. The navy and gold received one vote last week as well.
Northwood (Fla.) is a unanimous #1 with 374 points and all 14 first-place votes. Oregon Tech, Davenport (Mich.), McPherson (Kan.), and Dordt round out the top five.
St. Ambrose is the lone Midwest Collegiate Conference squad in the top 25 at #19, while Ashford is unofficially 29th.
The state of Iowa is well represented with four more squads from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (#5 Dordt, #13 Northwestern, #15 Briar Cliff, and #35 Morningside) also in the poll.
The Statesmen travel to La Crosse, Wis. Wednesday to face Viterbo in MCC play at 7:30 p.m.
