Statesmen of the Week: Justin Martinez and Carlee Frayne

Oskaloosa–Baseball player Justin Martinez (Sr., Bronx, N.Y., Sports Management) and women’s golfer Carlee Frayne (Sr., Garner, Iowa, Sport Management) have been named Statesmen of the Week for the week of April 15-21, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Martinez posted a .583 batting average (7-for-12) in the weekend, including one double, one home run, four RBIs, and four runs scored. The senior also walked four times and was hit by one pitch for a .706 on-base clip and a .917 slugging mark.

Martinez managed three multi-hit showings, headlined by going 3-for-3 (one home run) with two RBIs and two runs scored in the week’s final contest. He helped WPU to a 3-1 record.

Frayne placed second out of 27 players at the Statesmen Invitational last Monday and Tuesday. The senior, who helped the Statesmen to the team crown, had Monday’s top score at 73 before also posting a 41 to finish at seven-over-par 115 in a weather-shortened event. It is her fifth top-10 finish of the season and her highest of the campaign.
