Des Moines–Three players eclipsed double figures in kills as the William Penn volleyball team picked up its first Midwest Collegiate Conference victory by sweeping AIB 3-0 Tuesday.

Kristal Campos (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Sociology) guided the offense with 13 kills and a .667 clip (just one error in 18 attempts).

Kylie Giger (So., Elkhart, Ind., Exercise Science), with 11 winners, and Shawni Wills (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology), with ten points, also reached double digits for the victors.

Dayna Sammons (Jr., Menomonee Falls, Wis., Software Engineering) assisted 38 times, while DeAuntra Pryor (So., East Chicago, Ill., Elementary Education) served up two aces.

Twenty-two digs by Danielle Breeher (So., St. Louis, Mo., Undecided) and three blocks by Jeanette Cunningham (Sr., Mt. Orab, Ohio, Elementary Education) paced the navy and gold defensive effort.

“We did what we needed to do tonight to get our first league win,” Head Coach Jennifer Carlson said. “Everyone did their job and executed what was asked of them. Things are starting to shape up well as we finish our season and head into the conference tourney.”

Next: The Statesmen travel to Lamoni Friday to compete in a triangular against AIB at 4 p.m. and host Graceland at 6 p.m. Both matches will count as non-conference contests.
