Statesmen Honored with Musco Sportsmanship Award

Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s volleyball team has been selected to receive the Musco Team Sportsmanship Award, announced Monday by the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

The Statesmen, who are coached by Luke Bentley, earned the award for their display of the NAIA’s five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

Teams are nominated throughout the season by athletics administrators, game officials, coaches, student-athletes, and fans.

“Luke Bentley has done an amazing job with their program this year,” an award nominator said. “He has a really great approach to team culture, and you can really see it when their team competes. They respect their opponents and play the game the right way.”

The sportsmanship award winner for each sport will be honored at this summer’s Heart Summit later this month.
