Statesmen Gain Key Experience Ahead of Conference Championship

Maryville, Mo.–The William Penn women’s track and field team continued its indoor season Saturday at the Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Open, securing valuable experience ahead of next week’s conference meet.

De’Avae Adderley (Jr., Nassau, Bahamas, Engineering Technology) led the Statesmen in the 60-meter dash, finishing 32nd with a time of 8.11 seconds. Close behind, Ellasa Horton (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Human Services) placed 35th in 8.16 seconds. Horton also clocked 27.71 seconds in the 200-meter dash, finishing 36th.

“This meet was about being able to see our conference track before our meet next week. We wanted our athletes to feel out the track, runways, boards, etc.,” Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said. “Even though this was a strategic meet our athletes still went out there and performed well. We saw some really good things and some things to tighten up going into the conference meet. They are in a good spot heading into Indoor Conference next week and they are hungry for some big performances.”

Next Up: William Penn returns to Maryville, Mo., for the Heart Championship, set for Friday and Saturday.
