Statesmen Drop Iowa Wesleyan in Match Play Event
Moravia–The William Penn men’s golf team concluded its regular season with a Ryder Cup-style event, defeating Iowa Wesleyan in the Preserve Shootout Monday.
The Statesmen knocked off the Tigers 11.5 – 4.5 in action that was held at The Preserve Golf Course.
The competition included Better Ball and Alternate Shot formats. WPU was even at 2-2 in paired Alternate Shot play, but dominated paired (3.5-0.5) and single (6-2) Better Ball play to cruise to the victory.
The duos of Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) and Brandon Dizon (Jr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology) and Kyle Hashimoto (Jr., Acampo, Calif., Exercise Science) and Zach Swink (Jr., Burlington, Iowa, Sociology) both won their Better Ball and halved their Alternate Shot, while Ben Roberts (Sr., Albia, Iowa, General Accounting) and Justin Bothma (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management) halved in Better Ball and won in Alternate Shot. Spencer Skipper (Sr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) and Clay Tucker (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education) took their Better Ball competition as well.
In single Better Ball play, Lundsgaard, Dizon, Tucker, Bothma, Hashimoto, and Swink were all victorious.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Kansas City, Mo. on May 9-10 to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships. Play will be held at Swope Memorial Golf Course.
