Oskaloosa–Ever so close to moving back into the top ten, the William Penn football team’s hard-to-swallow setback last weekend dropped it a handful of spots as the NAIA’s seventh top-25 poll was released Monday.

The Statesmen (5-3, 1-1 MWL), who lost to #9 Saint Xavier 48-46 last Saturday, fell five slots to #16 with 134 points.

Courtesy of a loss to previous #2 Baker, Morningside is now a unanimous #1 with 340 points and all 15 first-place votes. Carroll (Mont.), Grand View, and Faulkner (Ala.) make up positions 2-4, while Georgetown (Ky.) and Southern Oregon are tied for fifth.

Clinging to its postseason life, William Penn travels to Bourbonnais, Ill. Saturday to face Olivet Nazarene in Midwest League play at noon.
