Statesmen Defense Again Honored by BSN

The William Penn Statesmen defense tripped up St. Francis this past weekend to play a major role in Saturday’s win for Penn.

Oskaloosa–The William Penn defense was instrumental to the navy and gold remaining perfect over the weekend and it was honored for that collective effort by the Beyond Sports Network.

The fifth-ranked Statesmen (6-0, 3-0 MWL) gave up just 296 yards to then-#15 St. Francis (Ill.) in a 19-8 Midwest League win. The yardage was the lowest tally thus far for the Fighting Saints, while explosive quarterback E.J. White was held under the 200-yard barrier (178 yards) for the first time in 2012.

In the victory, William Penn forced four USF turnovers (two interceptions, two fumbles) and returned two of those takeaways for touchdowns. It is the second time this year that the Statesmen defense has scored twice; the other time against Bethel (Kan.) also netted a BSN weekly honor.
