Statesmen 27th in Fourth Poll

Oskaloosa–The William Penn softball team fared well in a busy week to keep itself on the national radar as the NAIA released its fourth regular season coaches’ poll Tuesday.
The Statesmen (23-9, 7-1 MCC) went 8-2 last week to improve one position to #27 (67 points). The navy and gold are the only representatives receiving votes nationally from both the Midwest Collegiate Conference and the state of Iowa.
Concordia (Calif.) is still #1 with 559 points and 18 first-place votes. Cal State-San Marcos, Lubbock Christian (Texas), with the final two first-place votes, Lee (Tenn.), and Williams Baptist (Ark.) did not move from last week to round out the top five.
William Penn travels to Mount Pleasant Friday and Saturday for the Iowa Wesleyan Sammons Classic. On Friday, the Statesmen will face Purdue-North Central (Ind.) at 4 p.m. and Robert Morris (Ill.) at 5:45 p.m. On Saturday, the team will meet Judson (Ill.) at 10:45 a.m. and St. Francis (Ill.) at 12:30 p.m.
