CLIVE, Iowa, Aug. 11, 2017 – A spontaneous decision to buy a scratch ticket paid off in a big way for an Oskaloosa man this week.

Richard Hart said he stopped Tuesday at Casey’s, 1902 S. Market St. in Oskaloosa and decided to buy a “Bonus Ball Bingo” scratch ticket. That ticket ended up winning the seventh of 29 top prizes of $25,000 available in the game.

“I started scratching and I started seeing numbers appearing. So I was just like, ‘Alright, keep going, keep going,’” Hart told lottery employees Wednesday as he claimed his prize at the lottery’s headquarters in Clive. “It just blew my mind. I couldn’t believe it was happening.”

The 28-year-old was still in disbelief as he claimed his prize with his siblings and mother.

“It’s going to set in eventually, but yeah, it was hard to believe,” he said.

Hart said he typically doesn’t play the lottery, but he had a feeling to buy a ticket Tuesday.

“It was spur-of-the-moment,” he said.

Hart, a construction worker, said he plans to save a majority of his winnings.

Bonus Ball Bingo is a $2 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery’s website, www.ialottery.com.
