Sorority at William Penn University Earns Governor’s Volunteer Award
Sisters of the Lambda Delta Nu Sorority accepted the Governor’s Volunteer Award
on August 1, 2018 at the Ottumwa Bridge View Center.

(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) — Governor Kim Reynolds and Lt. Governor Adam Gregg, held the yearly Governor’s Volunteer Award Ceremony on August 1, 2018 at the Ottumwa Bridge View Center in Ottumwa, Iowa. Representing William Penn University as an award recipient were the young women of Lambda Delta Nu Sorority.
Coordinated by Volunteer Iowa, the Governor’s Volunteer Award program—now in its 35th year— recognizes the dedicated people who volunteer their time and talent to help fulfill the missions of Iowa nonprofits, charitable organizations, and government entities. The program provides an easy way for these organizations to honor their volunteers with a prestigious, state-level award. Volunteers awarded are part of three categories including Individual, Group—of two or more individuals, and Length of Service—volunteers have served an organization for multiple years, in five year increments.
This year, William Penn University had a group of their own be recognized. Lambda Delta Nu, a sorority of nearly 20 young women, were recognized as a 2018 Governor’s Volunteer Award recipient in Ottumwa, Iowa. Penn’s sorority was awarded the 10-Year Group Length of Service Award. This group of young women was graciously nominated by Mark Lowe with the Iowa Department of Transportation.
“I was quite surprised when I received the letter that we were being recognized. But it was truly just such an honor to receive the award,” said Penn Senior, Sofie Lund, current President of the sorority. “After speaking with the other sisters and alumni, it felt that the bond between all of us has become much stronger.”
