Shirley Colleen Reynolds, 77, of Pella, passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella on Monday, January 5, 2015. She was born June 2, 1937, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Arthur and Lorene Hawk Van Rossum.
Shirley graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1956. She completed beauty school at Iowa School of Beauty in Ottumwa. On July 1, 1966, she was united in marriage to Daniel Reynolds in Oskaloosa. Dan preceded her in death on February 20, 2013.
Early in her career, Shirley worked for several beauty salons in Pella. The majority of her career she owned and operated Shirley’s Kut and Kurl at her home in Pella. She was still taking appointments and doing hair until just a few months ago. She was passionate about doing hair.
Shirley enjoyed knitting and crocheting, she made many scarves and baby cocoons for newborn babies at PRHC. She also enjoyed collecting pens and shopping. She delighted in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley also looked forward to attending the Church of the Nazarene with her family on the weekends. She had a deep love for the United States and was very patriotic.
Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Rebecca (& Todd) Van Gorp of Pella; five grandchildren: Hannah, Christopher, Isaac, Zerita and Leta Van Gorp; a brother, Larry Van Rossum of Oskaloosa; and a sister in law, Zerita Reynolds of Ankeny.
In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister in law, Sharon Van Rossum.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Pella with Pastor Greg Neer officiating. Private family burial will be held in the Indianapolis Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family present will be held Friday from 12:00 noon until service time at 1:00 p.m. in the Church of the Nazarene in Pella.
